Contrast In Society

I've spent the month of April working on exposing good images for a photo assignment entitled "Contrast In Society" and finding the right photographic opportunities has been difficult. Back on April 1st Jenny & I visited the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, IL, a really fantastic structure. Upon exiting the temple, having been informed that no photography was allowed inside, I glanced up at the carved stone surround of the entrance and saw this image. I can't imagine two more contrasting symbols - especially locked in intertwining circles.

Strangers Project - #3 "Jim"

I met Jim while dropping a few letters & bills at the Land O' Lakes post office. Jim has been living on Black Oak Lake in Land O' Lakes for over 25 years and has been coming up to Land O' Lakes for over 80 years. Jim tells me his grandfather started visiting Black Oak Lake in 1918. Jim's a very affable fellow and fun to talk with.

Which Do You Believe?

While tramping through the woods near our home I came across two signs on the same post that gave conflicting messages. I couldn't help but photograph it. Which one do you believe?

Strangers Project - #2 Tammie & Jeff

Today while wandering around Eagle River, WI looking for contrasting "Recall Walker" and "I Stand By Walker" signs I met Tammie and Jeff. I was actually in the street outside their Eagle River home photographing the "Recall Walker" sticker on the back of their car when they appeared at their front door! I quickly introduced myself, informed them that I was not photographing their car for political purposes, but rather for a photo assigment regarding "Contrast In Society" and then asked if they'd mind participating in my Strangers Project.

Tammie is a native of Eagle River and Jeff is an import that arrived on January 1, 1975. A very nice couple with a great sense of humor.

Strangers Project - #1 "Bruce"

Okay, so here's the deal. I've decided to embark upon a "Strangers" project. the idea is that I stop people that I don't know, ask them if they'd mind if I take their photo and then post it on this blog. The fundamental idea is to increase my photo skills while meeting new and interesting people and, of course, it gives me an opportunity to keep my "overcoming objections" skills honed.

#1 is Bruce. I met Bruce while taking a 6.5 mile walk with Jenny on the, yet to be completed, Land O Lakes bicycle trail. Bruce was operating some heavy equipment, getting this section of the trail ready for paving. He's from Eagle River and was born and raised here in the Northwoods.

Day 26 - Last Day In The Windy City

The famous scene from "The Seven Year Itch" is immortalized on Michigan Avenue and is a favorite tourist spot

Day 25 - Chicago

I'm always attracted to intersecting sight lines and interesting/conflicting textures - these condos provide both
