Swamp Iris

A beautiful wild Iris that I found in a small swamp in a 1,500 acre woodland. I like the fact that this beautiful little flower is wild and that it's growing on the edge of a swamp.

Snapping Turtle

A female snapping turtle depositing her eggs on a sand beach on a Northern Wisconsin lake.

Like Water Off A Duck's Back

In this case it's actually water beading up on a loon's back and head. This loon allowed me to get relatively close to capture his photo.

Common Loon

A pair of Common Loons has constructed a nest on a small island on our lake. Loon nests are located just off the water as loons are extremely inefficient walkers. Loons generally lay one to two eggs.

Eagle

There is a nesting pair of eagles on an island about 300 yards out in front of our house. Here's a shot of the male/female resting near the nest. The mate was on the nest at the time of this photo.

A Tree With Character

This morning, while on a walk in the woods, I noticed a broken old tree that spoke to me and exhibits a lot of character. I thought you might enjoy seeing it.

Old B

I went out looking for some transplantable hemlocks today and just enjoyed being out in the woods. I traveled down Old County Road B and loved seeing the trees in close to full bloom. What a beautiful day.

Black Water Maple

I encountered this natural drainage pond in some woods near our home. I was intrigued by the still, black water of the pond.

Swayback Barn

I have a mild fascination with the rolling hills and small dairy farms of Wisconsin. The other day I ran across this old, abandoned barn and couldn't resist capturing its image.

Trillium

Well, today I wound up kneeling in a large bed of Trillium in a remote patch of woods. What a pleasure.

Strangers Project - #5 "Dorothy"

Tonight I had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy. She has lived here in Kohler for over 50 years and says that she has enjoyed every minute of it. She was watching over her grandson, Jacob, who was playing with a bunch of neighborhood kids. I'm glad I got an opportunity to meet Dorothy, she's a very nice lady.

Strangers Project - #4 "Lisa"

Today I had the pleasure to meet and photograph Lisa. She was brought up in the Milwaukee area and has lived in Kohler, with her husband, for the past six years. Lisa was a delight to meet and she has a marvelous garden!

Better Days

Wandering around through Kohler, WI today I wound up in the Sheboygan Falls Cemetary - don't ask how that happened. I ran across this split/fallen tree which looks as though it has definitely had better days.
